One type of rework is preventative in nature, while the other is corrective in nature. Rework owing to new needs falls under the corrective category, and a formal change request must be submitted that considers numerous aspects such as cost and time modifications.

The proposed changes must be consistent with why the project was started in the first place. Because of some rework, the main project objectives and purpose cannot be lost. Performing a root cause investigation to see whether any more changes can be avoided.
Change control
It is important to consider how the modification may effect the project’s cost, schedule, risk, and other goals, such as quality. All modification requests must be classified as corrective or preventive, with appropriate action advised.
process
The rework plan must be updated, and the change control board must be formed and put into operation. All revisions to the deliverables must be scrutinized. Only allowing requests for change control that have been approved by the change control board.
